Home, Sweet Home

I am from Rockville, Maryland, a suburb in the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area. Before settling down in Rockville, my family bounced around the state a few times between Laurel and Greenbelt.

My family and I moved to Rockville right before the start of 8th grade at Robert Frost Middle School . Starting at a new middle school located over an hour away from all my old friends was rough at the beginning. I was a scrawny little kid with hair in a bowl-cut, large round glasses, braces, and a complete lack of fashion sense. Not much has changed, apparently.

The year before high school was long enough for me to not get lost on the walk home. The four years at Thomas S. Wootton High School were a blur. Some time around sophomore year, I shed the 20 lb. glasses, got the braces scraped off, cut my hair, and the rest is history. The dorkiness was harder to change, having been in both the Robotics Club and the ClubEAST (a NASA design competition). With a resume like that, it always amazed me that I wasn't fighting off girls left and right.

Unfortunately, Rockville is only nationally known for the Beltway Snipers that drew national attention for three weeks. But, and now I'm venturing dangerously into the nostalgic zone, it was in Rockville that I learned to drive, went to prom, broke my leg, took my first shot, got my first speeding ticket, and the list continues.

I had always pictured myself returning home after college and finding a job. Funny how things like that work out.
